St. Elizabeth’s has just had its last guilde meeting of the year. This past fall Escondido Faire marked my one year anniversary with the Guilde. As we embark on a new season, I am forced to recall the years passing. I joined the guilde in an utter moment of anxiety. Fall Esco 07, I came to the faire with a large group of companions as a costumer. The Queen was on her entrance progress and I bowed as she approached. As I stood, I noticed that she had stopped and was staring directly at me. I freaked out mentally because I had only been a little customer with no experience gigging. She spoke to me and my friends. I responded in the language, or attempted to at least. It was all very pleasant. She progressed on and the Lord Leicester started walking towards me. As he got closer I bowed as to let him pass; recognizing his station above me. But to my surprise, he didn’t walk pass, he bade me stand and handed me his card. They invited me to play with them the following weekend. Showing up on the next Sunday was a day full of excitement and anxiety. I was being cast in a Courtiers role, not a place usually given to newbie’s, and let me tell you, if ever there was a newbie, it was me! Well I passed, I danced my way into the guilde, and it’s been an incredible experience thus far. The 08 season has been nothing but fun. I’ve made some incredible friends, people that I will truly hold dear to my heart. This turned out to be more than just the fulfillment of my ultimate geek dream, it was an introduction into a family, a dysfunctional family at times, by hey, every family can be like that. The sense of community that pervades the air, indeed the very spirit of faire is intoxicating. This year was the laying of my foundation in faire. The 09 season will, I believe, provide larger and richer opportunities for the development of my character, and my own acting skills. I can’t help but to thank those who have welcomed me in the guilde and made my first year such a pleasant one. To Bill and Patti, truly and from the bottom of my heart(don’t me to impressed there, it’s not very deep! ;)) THANK YOU!!… for giving me a chance. Thank you for scaring the crap out of me that overcast day back in the fall of 07, and thank you for inviting me into your family.
Faire revisited
We just finished our spring Escondido Renfaire season. It was amazing. I have learned much from these past two weekends. Much love and appreciation goes out to all of St. Elizabeths Guilde.
Also, not having power to operate the blower to inflate the
air mattress SUCKS as the ground agrees not with my back. The heat got to us a
bit this past weekend. We stayed well hydrated thanks to members of the
Household staff for pushing water on us all the time (Thank you Pee and all other memers for doing a most fabulous job).
I got to arrange the Queens Shopping trip for a day, and it
was most fun (Thank you to the Countess of Kent (now the Lady Essex) for my
inclusion).
To those friends who did come to the faire and waved at me
from afar, or close, thank you sooooo much from the bottom of my heart, seeing
you all there really made doing this fun.
I learned that while being close to the privies for camping
is all good as we don't have to walk far, the slamming of the privy doors is
rather annoying when trying to go to sleep. Also, a substantial investment in
bug repellent would be most prudent as both my legs hosts more scratches and
bumps than many a piece of armor.
I have to heed the call of nature as soon as it hits as it takes about a good few minutes to untie all the divers parts of my garb and therefore cannot wait till the little peepee dance happens.
Overall, I am well pleased that I have joined this group. Please stop by and visit our website at www.godsavethequeen.org
Thanks to all for the support.

TRF tis truly one of the greatest fairs there is, though I've not personally been to every fair myself. The festival highlights are that it is literally the largest in the world, has top acts, hundreds of shops of all kinds, and a massive talented cast. The downside would be you can never find people and there are ALOT of fantasy type characters and non-period characters as well. I personally don't see that as a downside, but there are many who do. Would be grand to see you down at our fest some day.
